Not enough condemnation of police brutality. The casual stomping on a man who was already on the ground on BBC last night never gets a mention. Police standing back and allowing thugs to get on with damage, also no mention.
Not more police. Not more draconian laws. Better police and better laws that are fair just and civilized.

Valid points here Dermot, though some fundamental questions need to be addressed, such as..

Is our moral compass to be determined by politicians, or even teachers? Instead should it not be from good parenting, even if through steer from government?

As part of Big Society thinking, should the government not be posing serious questions, aimed at the parents/guardians of their school-aged children involved in such crimes?

How will the police garner the level of respect in these neighbourhoods, to enable it enforce the law, once the riot dust has settled?

Interestingly, I read on twitter that whilst the likes of Curry's and JD Sports where being targeted, no one touched WH Smith.
The irony of it..

All good points, Bella - there are big questions here for parents, teachers, police. Underachievement and disengagement of some urban youth are major factors, but of course many young people are doing well. The challenge is to encourage more young people to get on the right path.

Not surprised that WH Smith was left intact! The looting was targeted at trainers and tellys, not stationery.
